Rep. Wright welcomes bill that helps veterans

State Representative Christopher Wright (D-Bristol), in a press release, welcomed recent House passage of HB 5299, a bill that allows veterans to apply Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) codes towards employment qualifications and requires higher education institutions to award college credit for military service and experience. Rep. Wright is a co-sponsor of the bill, which goes next to the state Senate for approval.  “I am pleased the House has passed this bill that will benefit Bristol’s and Connecticut’s veterans returning from military service and helps them secure employment following their tours of duty,” Wright said in the press release. “The legislation also requires our institutions of higher education here in Connecticut to award college credit for their military training which is a significant step forward. As more members of the military return to civilian life the bill will enable them to have a better chance to use their skills and qualifications for future employment.” The measure implements recommendations reported to the legislature by the Military Occupational Specialty Task Force put together last year to address barriers to employment for Connecticut veterans and active duty members in the armed forces.
