As evidenced by last month’s Charleston Fashion Week in the South Carolina metropolis, fashion and style are taking a front seat in the south. Besides providing young and cutting edge designers from the east coast an opportunity to show and compete in the Emerging Designers Award, the event holds a Rock the Runway competition where models have the opportunity to show their skills on the judges who represent the top tier of talent in the fashion world. Models came from all over for the opportunity to walk in the event, which has the support of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week’s Fern Mallis. Each model on the runway in South Carolina had their opportunity to win the Rock the Runway competition with five males and 10 females eventually being picked for the finals (this from a pool of hundreds who attended casting calls and the 200 or so who were selected to actually walk for the participating designers). Past winners, and even finalists, have gone on to walk in New York fashion shows and appear in print campaigns. This year’s male winner was Zachariah Collins and the female winner was Paige Daniels.
