Bernard W. Smith, 99, of Terryville, former Thomaston resident, husband of the late Harriet (Dickinson) Smith, died Thursday July 21, 2016 at Cook Willow Health Center, Plymouth.
Bernard was born Feb. 26, 1917 in North Hampton, MA, son of the late Carroll H. & Lucy (Shaw) Smith. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Seth Thomas of Thomaston. He was a life member of the Thomaston Congregational Church, member of the Terryville/Plymouth and Thomaston Senior Citizens and American Legion Plymouth Post #20. Bernard enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and tennis. He was an avid reader and his family was most important to him.
He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Purney of Terryville and Elizabeth and her husband Stephen Rosa of Terryville, his grandchildren, Lauren Galusha and her husband Josh, Pamela Rosa and her husband Jose Marquez, Janessa Purney and her husband Burleigh Sunflower and Beth Purney, he also leaves four great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Monday 11:30AM at the Terryville Congregational Church. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. Relatives and friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville on Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00AM.
