Obituaries: Dorothy M. Rutkowski

Dorothy M. (Dunn) Rutkowski, 92, of Bristol, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, and went to be with the Lord and her husband, Edward, on Saturday, June 4th, 2016. Dorothy was born January 11, 1924 in Cincinnati, OH to Wilbert and Frances (Skrynecke) Dunn.  In 1946, Dorothy married the love of her life, Edward Rutkowski and together they raised three beautiful children and moved to Connecticut in 1961. With a love for reading, Dorothy enjoyed a long career working in the Tunxis Community College library for 27 years before retiring in 1997.  She cherished Sundays with her family, walking and line dancing, long chats with her sister, breakfast with friends, going to church, Christmas, big band music, fashion, and travel. She had a soft heart for the less fortunate and was very giving. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving and dedicated friend, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy is survived by her son Thomas and her daughter-in-law Barbara Rutkowski of Bristol, her daughter Mary Frances and son-in-law David Rioux of Burlington, and son William and daughter-in-law Jane Rutkowski of Bristol, her beloved sister Mary Jane Monahan of Cincinnati, OH, her nephews Daniel, David, and James and their spouses. She leaves behind her grandchildren Michael Rioux and his wife Naomi, Mark Rutkowski, Justin Rioux, Sarah Rutkowski, Lara Rutkowski and her partner Divanny Jaramillo, Christopher Rioux and his partner Olena Zyga, Rachael Rutkowski and her fiancé Tony Macri, and Katherine Bolas and her husband Jason, her great-grandsons Elijah LaMonaco, Levi Rioux and one great grandson on the way.  Funeral services will be held on Friday (June 10, 2016) at 9 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM.  Entombment will be at the convenience of the family in the Holy Family Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Thursday between 5 and 8 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rutkowski Family Fund c/o St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol, CT 06010, or the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.  (www.dav.org ).  Please visit Dorothy’s memorial web-site at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.com.obituary
