Two months to the day from when Peter Del Mastro announced his candidacy for the 79th District House seat, he was nominated to be the Republican party’s candidate at a convention held Monday.
Del Mastro was nominated by Republican Town Committee Vice-Chairman Jeff Caggiano and his nomination was seconded by City Councilman Dave Mills.
In their remarks, according to a press release from Del Mastro’s campaign, both men cited various examples of Del Mastro’s service to Bristol since moving here in 1998 as well as his dedication to and support of the Bristol Republican Party.
Del Mastro has stated that, according to his campaign press release, “Connecticut is in a financial death spiral. Democrats, who
control both the House and Senate, refuse to make the fundamental changes necessary to save our state. If I am elected to represent the people of the 79th district, I will work tirelessly to make the required changes a reality.”
The release from his campaign said Del Mastro’s plan to bring prosperity back to Connecticut consists of three elements. First, increase State revenue with pro-growth policies that attract businesses to Connecticut, encourage business expansion within Connecticut and facilitate the creation of high skilled, high wage jobs. Second, develop and implement policies that make Connecticut an attractive, affordable place to live for retirees, young people, and the middle class. Third, restructure state government to make it more responsive to the needs of the people by delivering services in a more efficient, cost-effective manner.
Del Mastro, according to his news release, emphasizes the need for voters in Bristol and across the state to subtract Democrats from and add Republicans to both the State House and Senate. “This will
help ensure that the necessary changes will be made to turn Connecticut around and get us all to a better place.”
