Robert W. Wentland, Sr, age 96, received his crown of glory on May 13, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 2, 1920, to Robert and Emily Wentland, he is survived by the love of his life and wife of 74 yrs, Martha. Robert was the loving father of 4 children. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Thomas and is survived by daughters Roberta Rader (Arthur) of Wisconsin, and Lynn Batchelder (David) of Maine, son Robert Wentland (Patricia) of New Hartford and Daughter-in-law, Judith Wentland of Florida. He will be greatly missed by the grandchildren he dearly loved: Thomas Wentland, Jr. (Lisandra), Sally Gagnon (Kevin), Marc Rader (Nicole), Sarah Hughes (Jason), Jon Rader (Lauren), Kristin Ruggerio (John), Eric Batchelder (Jill), Kay Batchelder, Melanie Parker (Jarred), Robert Wentland Jr and by his 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Ruffie Hein of Bristol, Carrie Haupt of California, Minnie Reeves of Burlington, and George Wentland of Bristol. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul and sister Dell Williams. A life-long resident of Bristol, Robert worked at Peplau Dairy and Wallace Barnes and was founder and owner of Wentland Builders, working with his sons, Thomas and Robert. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He honorably served in WWll in the Pacific Theatre. (Marshals, Saipan, Tinnian), for which he earned 3 combat stars and a Presidential Unit Citation for outstanding service and extraordinary heroism in combat. Robert was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Calling hours at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Terryville, will be held Wednesday, May 18 from 10:00-11:00 AM followed by the funeral service and service of Christian burial.
