C.V. Mason & Company, a local family-owned insurance business has donated $6,000 to McCabe-Waters Little League through the Connecticut Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA). Ellen Zoppo from the McCabe-Waters Long Range Planning Committee introduced C.V. Mason to the community investment opportunities afforded by the NAA Program. As a result,  C.V. Mason has donated a total of $27,916 to McCabe over the past four years .

“McCabe always had a warm spot in my heart,” said Chris Wilson, president of C.V. Mason, according to a press release. “Our company has been very well supported by the community here in Bristol, and it is important for us to give back.”

The NAA Program provides a tax credit to businesses that make cash investments in qualifying community programs conducted by tax exempt or municipal agencies. Sponsorship applications submitted each fall are first approved by the Department of Revenue Services. The current cash donation has meant that McCabe-Waters has been able to complete a number of projects: the field house has been resurfaced, windows and the top panels of the dugouts have been replaced, bathrooms have been upgraded with new fixtures and netting behind home plate and fencing on two fields now complies with Little League specifications. The fields have been improved for better drainage.

“Mr. Wilson has been our number one sponsor,” said board member, Mark Gibson, according to a press release. “As a parent and coach, I’m grateful to community leaders like him who have given us ongoing support. Our goal has always been to leave the facilities and grounds in better shape than we found them. And it’s people like Mr. Wilson who have helped us realize this Field of Dreams.”

“My three children have benefitted greatly from their experiences at McCabe,” Chris Wilson said, the news release reported. “They learned goal setting, teamwork and respect for others, all skills they take with them today. It’s great to see the success of the players and the park.” Wilson has himself been a McCabe volunteer, managing the Mets. He was also president of the league for two years.
