BBGC announces officers, board of directors

The Boys and Girls Club of Bristol Family Center announced new officers and Board of Director members who began their terms on March 24.

The board makes policy decisions, authorizes rulemaking and oversees the club’s operations.

William Mascetti, president of ACG North America, will serve as chair of the BBGC for Fiscal Year 2015. He holds an associate’s degree from Hartford State Technical College in civil engineering as well as an associates from Wentworth Institute of Technology –Building and Construction. He is also president of the trustees at YMCA Camp Mohawk in Litchfield and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce.

According to a press release, Mascetti said, “I am honored to have been elected as chief volunteer officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Bristol Family Center. The Boys and Girls Club of Bristol is at the forefront of youth development in Bristol and beyond, and this is an exciting time to oversee the organization’s strategic activities.”

Joining Bill Mascetti is vice chair, Mark DiVenere, treasurer Mike Samartino, and secretary Mike DellaBianca.

Vice chair Mark DiVenere is president and owner of GEMCO Manufacturing Company in Southington. He is the President of the BBGC Older Members Association and was the BBGC Boy of the Year recipient in 1981.

Treasurer Michael Samartino is a partner at Adams Samartino, a public accounting firm with locations in Bristol and Torrington. He has a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Central Connecticut State University. He began his career at Blum Shapiro in West Hartford. He left Blum Shapiro in 1993 to return to his hometown of Bristol and began what is now Adams Samartino and Co.‚ CPAs.

Secretary Mike DellaBianca is the director of Client Services at Yale University. He has been a member of the BBGC since he was in grammar school and was Boy of the Year in 1986. Prior to joining Yale, he has held various leadership positions with small to large companies.

Joining the board for three-year terms on March 24 were: Corinn D’Amato, Pastor Kevin Karner, Jennifer Lopes, Gina Swenton, and David Mills.

Corinn D’Amato is currently a senior accountant at Adams Samartino and Co., CP. She has a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Central Connecticut State University. 

Pastor Kevin Karner currently serves as pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bristol. Prior to his move to Bristol in 2010, he served as the senior pastor at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Muncie, Ind.

Jennifer Lopes provides HR leadership to the Associated Spring Bristol Division of Barnes Group, Inc. She holds a bachelor’s degree in General Studies with a focus in communications from the University of Connecticut and holds Professional Human Resources certification with the Society for Human Resource Management. She will be pursuing her master’s degree in the fall.

Gina Swenton is currently the regional director of Financial Aid for Lincoln College of New England, formerly Briarwood College. She is also a current Board of Director for the Plymouth School to Career Program and formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Main Street Community Foundation Women and Girls’ Fund.

David Mills is a retired Bristol public school teacher. He serves as chair of the Bristol Marketing Committee and was a city councilor for two terms. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame, as well as past president for 14 years. He also serves as a corporator at Bristol Hospital. He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University.

Michael Suchopar, chief professional officer commented, according to a press release from the club, “We are honored to have such outstanding officers leading our organization in its mission of enhancing the lives and futures of our children. Our new board members will offer new perspectives and personal approaches to a board that is already inspired, dedicated and effective. Their combined leadership along with our excellent professional staff, creates an environment which assures that ‘Great Futures Start Here.’”
