The Plainville Wind Ensemble is preparing for its 2015 concert season with rehearsals every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the band room of Plainville High School.

Founded in 1987, the Plainville Wind Ensemble began with interested adult musicians meeting weekly in the auditorium of the old junior high school. Fourteen adults from several cities and towns in Connecticut became Plainville’s first community band.

Now, 27 years later, the group’s membership has grown to 85 musicians ranging from amateur to professional with ages ranging from 18 to 80. Several of the original members still perform in the wind ensemble. The group has been featured in national magazines such as Making Music magazine and The Journal of the Association of Concert Bands.

Conducted by Ken Bagley, the musicians have several concerts and events planned, beginning with the annual dance fund raiser, featuring Center Stage Jazz, a program of the Plainville Wind Ensemble and finishing with a grand performance at the Lake George Festival of Bands in Lake George, New York.

The band welcomes new members, especially for the percussion, alto saxophone, euphonium, and tuba sections. Interested musicians may join at any time. For more information, please visit plainvillewindensemble.com and Facebook.
