BRISTOL/SOUTHINGTON — In the Winter Wonderland Starlight Theatre at Lake Compounce, a voice came over the PA.
“It’s Santa! I know him!”
And out walked the jolly old elf himself on to the stage, which was surrounded by brightly lit Christmas trees in a myriad of colors.
A line of children waited patiently to share their Christmas wishes. And some families made arrangements for entire group photos with the man from the North Pole.
The annual “Holiday Lights” at Lake Compounce amusement park was officially underway for the opening Saturday of the season.
Elsewhere, Mrs. Claus was on hand, greeting guests for the opening. And elves dotted the theater everywhere to offer up helping hands in all sorts of manners.
Throughout the amusement park, the pathways were lined with a myriad of lights, intended to put the guests in a holiday spirit. At the entrance to the park, an entrancing light show kept guests entertained. Later, you could hear story telling in the background from Mrs. Claus. The rides in Kiddieland were in full motion for families. Pink’s Hot Dogs helped keep the bellies full and Dunkin Donuts helped keep the bodies warm with hot coffee and other warm beverages for guests. There were other tasty goodies and holiday-themed gifts for sale throughout the park as well.
The festive atmosphere, with the hundreds of thousand lights installed by the park, also provide the perfect backdrop for those holiday greeting card photos.
The amusement park’s “Holiday Lights” continues today for 4 to 7 p.m. “Holiday Lights” then continues through Dec. 21 on Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 4 to 7 p.m.
Tickets are $14.99 plus tax for adults, $10.99 plus tax for children 4 to 10, and free for children 3 and under. Tickets may be bought on-line at www.LakeCompounce.com or the admission gates.
