Hitting up the Halloween trends

The time for Halloween costume shopping is underway.
And Savers, the used clothing store that benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters, is marketing itself as a Halloween costume headquarters.
Nicki Nascimento, who is the resident “Costume Consultant” at the Savers on Farmington Avenue in Bristol, said the big trend this year are costumes based on television shows such as “The Walking Dead” and movies such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Frozen.” Look for zombified outfits or costumes that evoke Elsa and Anna from the Disney animated flick Video games are also big this year, said Nicki. “Call of Duty”-based costumes are in especially high demand.
In a press release, Savers also said adults are hitting up more traditional Halloween themes, such as witches and pirates.
When shopping for a costume, Nicki suggested narrowing it down to whether you want to be scary, funny, or cute. Once you pinpoint your initial costume direction, Nicki said it is easy to narrow it down.
For instance, she said, if you want to be flirty, Savers has tiaras and tutus.
If you want to be scary, Nicki said, “We have a ton of (fake) blood.”
Shopping at Savers also has certain advantages over the usual costume or party store, said Nicki.
“What’s awesome about Savers is we don’t just offer the new stuff, we offer used as well,” said Nicki.
“Where you may find the same stuff at retail stores, it’s a bit pricier, where here you can pair new and used (to save some money),” said Nicki. “You can buy a used costume here for $6.99 and pair it with new accessories.”
For instance, Nicki said, “If you’re going as a pirate, you only need a pair of striped pants and a really good vest, which probably ranges between $9.99 to $12.99 here.” And then, she said, you can pair those used items with a new pirate hat and sword for $12.99.
“What’s great here is you don’t have to spend as much here to get the same look at those new stores,” said Nicki.
Also, Nicki said, the money spent at Savers helps the community. “We are paired with Big Brothers Big Sisters… a non-profit organization.”
“All the money we make is donated to them. All profits go toward them. And we pay Big Brothers Big Sisters for the donations they give us,” said Nicki. And that money then stays in the Bristol-Hartford area, she said.
