In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, State Senate candidate Rob Michalik released the following statement:
“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a time to remember those who have lost their lives to breast cancer, celebrate those who have survived the disease, and reaffirm our support for those who are fighting it now,” said Rob Michalik in his campaign press release. “Though we have made significant strides in combating breast cancer, it still remains the second leading cause of cancer death among women. Breast cancer can affect anyone. I should know – my mother is a breast cancer survivor.
“Rob was there with me at the doctor’s appointments, asking questions and providing encouragement,” said Rob’s mother, Sandy Michalik in the press release. “Though breast cancer among men is rare, they have a significant role to play in combating the disease. They can provide critical support to those undergoing treatment. The support of Rob, his brother, and my husband made it easier for me to get through the surgery and follow-up treatments.”
“Early detection is crucial to survival,” said Michalik in the press release. “Mammograms, though not perfect, can help to catch breast cancer early. I urge women to speak with their doctors about how to detect and combat the disease.”
