The Gateway Cafe on Riverside Avenue hosted a benefit for TOMcat Animal Rescue on July 26, which raised over $1,000.Close to 100 people attended the benefit, which included food, raffle prizes, and music courtesy of The Doomie Brothers. The cafe’s owner, George Jones, contacted TOMcat after he found a stray cat with kittens. TOMcat had the mother spayed and found forever homes for all the kittens. The group assisted again when a litter of kittens was found outside the restaurant. Jones and the staff at The Gateway thought a benefit was the best way to say thanks. The Gateway Cafe has hosted animal benefits in the past and hopes to make this an annual event. TOMcat specializes in kitten rescue but helps all animals in need when possible. In addition to providing veterinary care and adoption services for abandoned animals, the group also assist neighborhoods with TNR (trap-neuter-return) of feral cat colonies in Bristol and Plainville.
