State Representative Christopher Wright (D-Bristol) in a press release urged area residents who qualify for the state’s low-income winter heating aid program to consider enrolling as soon as possible.
A joint meeting of the General Assembly’s Appropriations, Human Services and Energy Committees approved plans for winter assistance earlier this week.
“We could be facing another harsh winter season again this year,” Wright said, according to the press release. “I urge Bristol residents who may be eligible, particularly the elderly, to consider enrolling because a record number of people may be applying statewide.”
Wright noted in the press release from his legislative office hat applications are being accepted at Community Action Agency intake sites. In Bristol, one of those state agencies is The Bristol Community Organization, Inc. at (860) 582-7490.
The proposed plan assumes federal block grant funding of $77.4 million which is anticipated to provide benefits to approximately 102,700 Connecticut households, said the release. Lawmakers are awaiting final congressional action on the federal appropriation for the grant.
The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program and the Contingency Heating Assistance Program are administered by the Department of Social Services and coordinated by regional Community Action Agencies, in cooperation with municipal and other non-profit human service agencies.
